This scholarship is a great way to jump start a journalism career.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The award package includes a $1,000 cash prize for tuition, a free one-year CAJ membership, and a complimentary pass to the CAJ National Conference on May 30-31, 2025, in Calgary!&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Not only do you get help with tuition, but the essential tools, networking opportunities, and experience to point you in the right direction!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How to Apply<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Interested in the opportunity? Below are details on the application process.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Eligibility<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>First, to be eligible for the scholarship, you must:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Be majoring in journalism and pursuing either a bachelor&#8217;s or master&#8217;s degree&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Be accepted to or currently enrolled in a Canadian college or university&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Be enrolled in a program leading to a diploma, undergraduate, or graduate degree&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019re in a non-journalism program, don\u2019t worry \u2013 you can still apply! You\u2019ll have to demonstrate and prove your journalism skills, though. This could be in the form of a published article or working for a college newspaper, publication, etc.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Submission Guidelines<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>As to the submission, itself, it can be any of the following:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A published work from student, local, alternative, or mainstream media&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>An analysis or visualization completed as a class assignment&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>An in-depth analysis published on a personal blog&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Requirements for Submission:<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>An individual work submission is preferred. If part of a team, include a detailed explanation of your contribution.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Your piece must incorporate data skills, including at least one data visualization (e.g., a map or chart).&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Provide a methodology explaining your process, tools, and data compilation.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Note that your submitted work has to demonstrate an investigative narrative, either revealing new findings from the data you\u2019ve analyzed or developing a deeper context from the data, itself.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, your submission must have been produced within one year of the scholarship closing date.<strong>&nbsp;<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Previous winners are not eligible to apply. Other students who\u2019ve entered in previous years can enter again, however, they must still meet all eligibility requirements and submit a different piece of work.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Deadline:<\/strong> April 11, 2025, at 11:59 PM EST&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Judging Criteria<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Submissions will be judged with Candian journalism standards in mind. The winning entry will be one that demonstrates an understanding of data analysis, a proficient use of data tools, and skillful story-telling skills that provide a coherent narrative.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Our jury will be evaluating your submission, looking for the following:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Compliance with submission rules&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Clarity and readability&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Effective use of data and visualizations&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Quality and strength of the topic&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>You can visit our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.investintech.com\/data-journalism-scholarship\/winners\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Winner\u2019s page<\/strong><\/a> to view examples of the quality and level of data analysis our jurors are looking for.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once they\u2019ve reviewed all submissions, they\u2019ll select a winner, and the announcement will be made on <strong>April 28, 2025, <\/strong>on our blog and social media.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Meet the Selection Jury<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>So, who will be judging your submission?
