The PDF format is frequently associated with document security. Many believe that when you create PDF files these documents are automatically secured, making it impossible to extract text or images or any other information from the created PDF document.
However, what many do not know is that it is not quite that simple and that in fact, not all PDFs are created equally. Just because a document is created as a PDF, does not mean it is secure. In order to have a truly secure document that is protected from misuse, it is necessary to specially encrypt the PDF at the time of creation.
In many PDF creators, figuring out how to properly secure a PDF can be a real challenge.
With Sonic PDF 3, you can always be sure that you are securing your PDF by clicking the "Create Secure PDF" button on our user toolbar. In fact, by using our interface, you will always have two PDF creation options:
"Create PDF" - This will create a standard PDF that is not encrypted. Therefore, parties that you share your PDF with will be able to extract text, graphics and other information from the PDF.
"Secure PDF" - By creating a secure PDF, you will be preventing users from manipulating the PDF if any way. For an extra measure of protection, you will also be able to add a password to ensure that only users who you give the password to will be able to view the file.
