The Set Password function enables users to add password protection and security to protect the active document. This security can help to prevent unauthorized access to or modification of the secured document.
The following provides descriptions for the security settings available for this function:
Password Types :
User Password : The password users must enter before they can open the file. Master Password : Password Required to Change Permissions and Passwords and the password that users must enter before they can set or change any security options in Adobe Acrobat.
Encryption level :
40-bit RC4: This encryption level has a lower level of security and only supports four permission setting. It is compatible with Acrobat 3 and 4. 128-bit RC4: This encryption level has a higher level of security. It is compatible only with Acrobat 5 and up.
Permissions:
No printing the document: Prevents users from printing the file. No modifying the document: Prevents users from creating form fields, as well as making any other changes. No copy and paste: Prevents users from copying text, graphics and other content. No modifying comments: Prevents users from adding or changing comments or form fields.
Permissions (128-bit only):
No printing in low resolution: Prevents users from printing the document in low resolution (150 dpi). No form fields fill-in: Prevents users from filling in form fields and signing existing signature fields. No screen reading: Prevents text access for screen reader devices for the visually impaired. No changes to the assembly : Prevents users from inserting, rotating, or deleting pages and creating navigation elements such as bookmarks or thumbnail images.
