The Extract Pages command enables the user to create a new file or several new files from the active PDF document in the PDF viewer.
The page range options for this dialog allow the user to specify whether to Extract the current page, all pages, a page range, or specific pages within the active PDF document. If the “Pages” item is selected, the user has the option of duplicating page numbers or using reverse ordered page ranges (e.g. “20-10”). The resulting document will contain the pages in exactly the same order and copies (including duplicates) that the user specified in the string.
If desired, the user can choose to “Delete pages after extracting”. Caution: choosing to “Delete pages after extracting” will delete the pages from the source document. In most cases, users will not want to check this box.
If the user wishes to produce several files resulting from the extracted pages, the “ Split output to several files” item should be checked. If so, the user should then specify the output file path for all output files. The user can then specify the output file name prefix. For example, if the user selected the prefix “SonicPDF” – the resulting files would be, “Sonic PDF001.pdf”, “SonicPDF002.pdf”, etc.
The user must then specify how to split out the extraction. The files can be split in order of extraction based on a set number of pages by selecting the “Extract every…” option. The user can also elect to use the specified page string option – extracting based on the string entered into the text box next to the “Pages” item. For example, if the string entered in the specified page range is: “1, 2-10, 3, 20-7”, the program will create four files containing: “page 1”, “pages 2-10”, “page 3” and “pages 20-7” from the original file.
