Customizing Firefox with UserChrome

Mozilla Firefox allows end users to customize the browser using a file called userChrome.css. It is a simple cascading style sheet document that can be altered to display varying colors, icons, placement of the sidebar, and much more. First, an end user will need to know where the file is located which is determined by the operating system they use. For example:Windows 95/98/MEc:\windows\Application Data\Phoenix\Profiles\[profile-name]\[#s].slt\chrome\Windows 2000/XPC:\Documents and Settings\[USER]\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\default.tea\chrome\Windows NT%UserProfile%\Application Data\Phoenix\Profiles\[profile-name]\[#s].slt\chrome\*NIX~/.phoenix/[profile-name]/[#s].slt/chrome/Mac OS X~/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles/[profile-name]/chrome/After locating the userChrome.css file a user may decide to change any number of styles such as font size, color, font family, and many others. Find the line that reads as follows: "window ." There will be information in between the brackets that will read like this: font-size: 3.5mm !important; font-family: helvetica !important;." A very important note if the end user does not have experience with CSS is that all of the punctuation must be maintained. Simply put, after the line "font-size" a colon is there and must remain there to tell the browser that the font-size is being changed or set to the denoted size of 3.5mm.There are notes left in the userChrome.css file to help a user determine what each line of code means and what it performs. A comment starts with the symbols "/*" and ends with "*/" and text will be found in the middle describing what the next line of code changes or what styles it applies to the page. After a basic crash course in CSS and locating the information a user wishes to change, Mozilla Firefox can be customized in any way shape or form.
